Over the past few months I’ve been pondering what to do with Stylecards. Earlier in 2023, a lot of effort was made into developing it as a brand, even if those efforts didn’t gain much traction. Not wanting those efforts to be in vain, the decision’s been made to take Stylecards in a new direction in 2024.
On March 1st Stylecards will be launched as a quarterly fashion and lifestyle magazine for Second Life. While there are several periodicals available in-world, most of them are adult-oriented material, leaving the fashion and lifestyle segments untouched. Considering the number of Second Life bloggers who write about fashion, home & decor, and in-world life in general, it looks like an audience for this type of content exists. When published, Stylecards will be a quarterly fashion and lifestyle magazine containing articles of interest to SL residents, including upcoming events, travelogues, pictorials, interviews, and more.
To get Stylecards pointed in the right direction and start building its audience, Stylecards has been opened as a store in the Second Life Marketplace and it’s first product, a 2024 calendar, has been listed. While hopeful the calendar will sell a few copies and earn some Lindens, creating it was mostly an exercise in new experiences. From using Krita to lightly edit the images, to using The Calendar Factory to assemble and create calendars, to starting a Marketplace store and listing products. The learning curve wasn’t necessarily steep, but mistakes were made and rectified, so the final product should be easy to use.
Issue № 1 has been outlined and with the calendar finally published, I can finally turn to the business of creating it. Working on Stylecards as a project during the summer of 2023 made me realize that creating content on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis wasn’t sustainable long-term. However, publishing more content and better content in the form of a quarterly magazine looks like the best option for balancing the need to create versus the time available to work on it.
The goal is to publish Issue № 1 on March 1st, and subsequent issues should come out every three months, in June, September, and December. Each issue will be available in the Marketplace store and in-world. While the price hasn’t been determined yet, each issue will probably contain some ads to help recover some of the costs of production. People who support Stylecards on Patreon will receive an in-world copy of Stylecards for free, as well as receiving a PDF copy for reading offline.
Anyone interested in Stylecards can keep an eye out here or keep checking the Marketplace store. Queries from prospective writers, models, photographers or advertisers should be sent to Xyntia Amore in-world, Feel free to send her a DM or a notecard. Those willing to take the leap and support Stylecards financially should check out the Patreon page.
