Writing prompt: 200 years from now

Time to write.
Since work and grad school will probably keep me busy this November, it’s unlikely I’ll be doing NaNoWriMo this year, but that doesn’t mean the ideas stop. I’ll try posting a few writing prompts over the next few weeks if anyone wants to use them.

On the walk into work this morning, listening to The Sandman, Act III audiobook, I began thinking about my shoes and how comfortable they were. The styles have changed over the centuries, but they’re still something we put on our feet to protect them. What did they call them 200 years ago? They probably didn’t call them sneakers. It made me wonder what they’ll be called 200 years from now, and that inspired today’s writing prompt.

Imagine you find yourself in a place 200 years from now. What does it look like? How did you get there? Did you wake from suspended animation? Were you transported in a time machine? What is familiar to you? What’s changed a little bit? What’s changed a lot? Who do you meet? How do they dress? What languages are spoken?
