Review Haiku – Hamlet
Posted on May 1, 2009
Cold Elsinore night
Ghostly apparition comes
Send for Prince Hamlet
King is dead by treachery
Play the fool and plot revenge
or
Hamlet in mourning
From his father’s ghost, a task
Madness takes its toll
How long will it continue?
The movie is only four hours!

This style of poem is a tanka. Where a haiku is three lines with five syllables on the first line, seven on the second, and five on the third (5-7-5), a tanka is like a haiku with two extra lines of seven syllables (5-7-5-7-7). Considering the length of this film, it seemed appropriate :-)
