Adventures in Dentistry

I haven’t written here in over a month, so I figured I’d get off my lazy butt and write something. This summer has been pretty calm weather wise, but there have been some tornadoes within the past few weeks, and apparently there were some tornado warnings somewhere today. Mostly, it just rained a lot.
In August I started going to the IU School of Dentistry to get some thorough work done on my teeth. At first, I was able to get the appointments every other week, but so far this month I’ve had them every week. Mostly it has been probing and checking to see how bad my teeth are (bad, but not horrible-pull-them-all-out bad), and they have doing scraping and root planing to get rid of the built up calculus. This last part is pretty intense, so they only do 1/4 of the mouth each time. Luckily, today was the last of those visits. I even got my teeth polished and a fluoride treatment, so the appointment lasted a little longer than usual.
Right now the anethetic is wearing off, so the jaw is a little tender. I find taking a couple of fake Tylenols helps out, though they recommend ibuprofen because it is an anti-inflammatory. The big thing I can say about it is that the pain is nowhere near what I had going on last winter. The big thing is it makes it difficult to eat anything substantial. For some strange reason, after the dental appointments I find myself wanting a chicken mole burrito from Qdoba. Unfortunately, after I got out of today’s appointment, it was pouring rain – worse than when I went into work this morning, so I took the People Mover home instead of heading to Qdoba or someplace nearby. I’m not hungry at the moment, but if I get hungry before going to sleep (still having those odd sleeping patterns), I’ll probably have some mashed potatoes or stuffing mix (diet of the lazy bachelor). I could make grilled chese, but I don’t think my jaw is up to much chewing at the moment.
